Dr Kalpna Gahalaut received M.Tech. and Ph.D. degrees from University of Roorkee (now IIT-Roorkee) in the year 1989 and 1996, respectively. Currently she is a Scientist at NGRI, Hyderabad since 2000. Her research areas include mathematical modeling of fluid flow through poroelastic medium and application of poro-elastic theory to study the earthquake phenomena related to natural and triggered earthquakes. She has worked extensively on the relation between the surface water reservoir impoundment and the earthquakes. Her studies also include stress inversion of earthquake source mechanisms in the Indian plate boundary zones including the Himalaya, studies related to coulomb stress change due to fault interaction and aftershock triggering. She is a recipient of INSA Young Scientist award (1999). She visited the University of South Carolina, USA as a BOYSCAST Fellow during 2004.
