Dr. E.V.S.S.K. Babu received his Ph.D from the University of Cambridge, U.K. under the guidance of Prof. T.J.B. Holland, FRS and Prof. David M. Pyle. Dr. Babu joined the EPMA Laboratory of the CSIR-NGRI in the year 2002 after holding positions as Reader in Earth Sciences, SRT Marathwada University, Maharashtra and Scientific Officer-SD position at the Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research, Dept. of Atomic Energy, Government of India. Dr. Babu’s research areas include thermodynamic modeling of silicates, silicate melts, understanding mantle petrology through mafic ultramafic xenoliths and xenocrysts including diamonds from kimberlites. He is also interested in tackling geodynamic problems through geochemistry and isotope geochemistry. He has vast expertise in in-situ elemental and isotopic anlaysis using Electron Probe Micro Analyser (EPMA), Laser Ablation – Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICPMS). Dr. Babu also teaches undergraduate, postgraduate students as well as entry-level to mid-career level geoscientists in advanced fields of mineralogy, petrology and geochemistry at several academic and other R&D institutions. He is currently the Activity-in-Charge of the Geochronology & Isotope Studies at the CSIR-NGRI.
