Dr. Uma Shankar is Senior Scientist at CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute,
Hyderabad. His research interests in the fields of marine seismic data Processing,
Modeling and Interpretation especially for gas hydrates exploration, Geothermal
modeling of the base of gas hydrate stability field and estimation of heat flow from depth
of the BSR, rock physics modeling for gas hydrate saturation estimates, post stack
Impedance inversion and correlation of key reflectors with well log data for
interpretation. He builds an expertise in well log analysis and interpretation and estimated
gas hydrate saturation from available well log data from the continental margin of India.
Dr. Shankar received his B. Sc. and M. Sc. (Tech.) degree from Banaras Hindu
University (BHU), Varanasi and Ph.D. degree from Osmania University, Hyderabad. He
received prestigious BOYSCAST Fellowship for year 2008-2009 from Department of
Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, New Delhi. He is recipient of Young
Scientist award 2010-11 of Council of Science and Technology, Utter Pradesh (CSTUP).
He is Associate fellow of the Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences. Dr. Shankar
participated in various offshore multichannel seismic and OBS surveys and responsible
for onboard seismic data processing as a team member.
