CSIR-NGRI: Human Resource Training Cell (HRTC)

Creation of trained human resource in the field of Earth Sciences with emphasis on Geophysics is an integral part of the activities of the institute. The HRTC functions through two committees:

1. Students Academic Committee (SAC)
2. Students Welfare Committee (SWC)

SAC looks after the academic aspects related to interfacing between the students and the scientists of the institute whereas SWC takes care of logistic issues such as accommodation, canteen, security, etc.

The word 'students' is used here in a generic sense and includes the young project and research staff working in the institute on the one hand and post-graduates, doctoral and post-doctoral scholars from different universities on the other who wish to work at CSIR-NGRI for a specified duration.

1. Review of progress of temporary Project staff for extension of tenure

Temporary project staff working in different projects of the institute is required to submit the work progress report annually for consideration of the extension of the tenure. The work report needs to be submitted in prescribed proforma through email (evaluation.sac.ngri@gmail.com at least one month before the completion of present tenure.

These reports are compiled by the Recruitment Section and put up before a designated committee for consideration of extension of tenure. The committee will meet every month (around 10th to 15th of the month) to evaluate these applications and submit recommendation.

 

2. Evaluation of Project Assistants/ JRFs for registration of Ph.D.

All candidates (including temporary project staff, except those registering under AcSIR) of the institute who desire to pursue Ph.D. must obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Director, CSIR-NGRI, before submitting application form to any university. They are required to submit the application form along with required enclosures in prescribed proforma through email (ngri.phd@gmail.com)and make a presentation before a designated committee(SAC Panel) for the issue of NOC. Please read the guidelines before filling up the application form.

SAC will meet quarterly (January, April, July, and October). Candidates are required to submit applications at least a month before these quarterly blocks.

3. Issue of NOC to External candidates where CSIR-NGRI scientist is a co-supervisor

External candidates who wish to carry out a part of thesis work at CSIR-NGRI and/or include the institute’s scientist as co-supervisor need to submit the application form along with required enclosures in prescribed proforma  through email (ngri.phd@gmail.com) ) and obtain the Director’s prior approval for the same. Please read the guidelines before filling up the application form.

SAC will meet quarterly (January, April, July, and October). Candidates are required to submit applications at least a month before these quarterly blocks.

4. Annual review of work progress of Ph.D. students after registration

All students pursuing Ph.D. at CSIR-NGRI are required to make presentation of work progress every year before a designated committee. The progress report in prescribed proforma needs to be submitted through email (ngri.phd@gmail.com).

5. Selection of Post-docs to take up research at CSIR-NGRI

 

A candidate with his/her own fellowship interested in pursuing post-doc work at CSIR-NGRI should consult the potential mentor from the institute to discuss the work plan and submit application in prescribed proforma any time during the year through email (ngri.phd@gmail.com). The candidate will be required to make a presentation highlighting his/her Ph.D. thesis work and proposed work plan.

 

 

6. M.Sc./ M.Tech. dissertation at CSIR-NGRI

Final year students of M.Tech./ M.Sc.(Tech.)/ M.Sc. (Geophysics/ Geology/ Allied Earth Science disciplines) may pursue dissertation work at CSIR-NGRI. The institute has a limited number of seats available for pursuing Post-graduation dissertation of 3-to-6 months period during January to June of every year. Interested candidates need to submit application in prescribed proforma latest by 31st October of the previous year. The applications will be evaluated by a committee and a list of selected candidates will be posted on the website in the first week of December. Selected candidate may contact his/her supervisor from the institute to finalize the work plan.
Upon request, selected candidates may be provided accommodation (subject to availability) and canteen facilities on payment basis. Request for availing these facilities should be sent to swc.ngri@gmail.com.

7. Summer/ Winter Training program for Post-graduate Students  

Training program of 6-to-8 weeks period for Post-graduate Students is normally slotted twice a year, i.e., summer (slot-1: May-June, slot-2: July-August) and winter (December-January). Winter slot is open only for the students of the universities located in the Himalayan region where winter vacations are for longer duration than summer vacations.

Interested students may apply online through the website of CSIR-NGRI in January for Summer slots and August for Winter slot. All details are available in the online form. Once selected, the candidate has to send his/her acceptance along with scanned copy of the application form signed by the Head of Department. The original signed copy needs to be produced at the Security Gate when coming to join for training. Selected candidates would be provided accommodation and canteen facilities on payment basis.

A soft copy of the training work has to be submitted to SAC, whereupon a Certificate will be provided by Director, CSIR-NGRI.

SWC takes care of all the infrastructural facilities like canteen, accommodation, identity cards, etc., provided to students as well as welfare measures during their stay at CSIR-NGRI.
